Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then located numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
